This house is cold. Uncomfortably cold. Outside in the sun its very nice and even feels warm enough to only wear one sweater. In the house, I wear a tee shirt, a button up sweater or long undies shirt, and then a thick warm sweater over the top. Yesterday I opened the front door and front windows to try to let some heat into the house. And since I was home alone I thought I could do whatever I wanted. But, it is not like that. Apparently it is weird to sit in the sun and let the sun into you house around these parts. Everyone that walked by saw the door open and the windows and looked at me like I am crazy. If people know I'm a gringa, usually they give me that "crazy gringa doesn't know what's right and wrong" look, but a few people in this neighborhood just think I'm some weirdo that sits outside on a bench in the sun... doing nothing at all with the little dogs laying on the sidewalk enjoying the warmth... and of course the front door wide open. Well, MIL came home and about threw a fit. Apparently its not ok to have the door and windows open.... and to let her precious little fucker of a dog outside. She quickly scooped him up, shut the door and brought him in to give him a bath. I guess being outside makes a dog dirty??? While Zoe and I relaxed and enjoyed the sun. Of course I could hear her calling Tito (FIL) and telling him what craziness I had been up to. Of course Tito just laughs and that almost always makes her even more mad. Anyways. Today I am planning on going outside and reading in the sun. :) I can't get my nose out of my book!! If anyone is looking for a good read... well, 7 good reads I HIGHLY suggest the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon! And since she must not trust me to care for her bratty dog, I can leave the front door open and let Zoe run about as she pleases. :) She usually doesn't do any running here, but napping in the sun is a hobby of hers.
Nothing much else is new around here. I think we are going to the feria tomorrow and buying a bunch of cleaning supplies. :) I don't think I have ever been so excited to clean in my life. There will be pictures of the cleaning!!! After the feria we have a birthday party for Guelli, Ro's gramma, and that should be fun because I haven't seen everyone yet since I have been back and they will all be there! It will also be fun because Ro's uncle J.C. bought the other uncle C. a bus ticket to Santiago so he could be with his mom on her birthday. We haven't seen C. in a long time because last year he moved to Puerto Montt... or maybe a small city close to that?? Not really sure. Anywho.. off to enjoy my book and the SUN!!!! I hope everyone has a great weekend!!!

i wonder if she thinks you make the house look vulnerable? having everything all open, plus with you sitting outside more people will realize a gringa lives there.
the dog thing is ridiculous though... doesnt the same thing happen when they walk it or let it outside to do its business?
Maybe that's what it is, but if anyone wanted to get in they still have the locked 8 foot high gate with scary looking spear things to get over. the dog thing hahaha, well, Micky, her dog, isn't allowed to go on grass... so therefore it thinks it can piss whereever it wants to. And it does, and other business it does outside, never on the grass but on the concrete which is disgusting because now the concrete is soaked with the wonderful smells of dog shit and piss I gag when I go in the backyard to hang up clothes. They never take the dog for a walk either. They don't even have a leash for it. Even walking from the gate to the car they carry it. Oh well, they'll be out of the ouse by the end of the week and I'm gonna sit in the sun all I want :D Well, if the sun ever comes back out!!!
I think Lydia may be on to something. I had a similar issue when I was studying in Conce.
However, the taking the dog away to wash it is just...werid. period.
I hope that your co-inhabiting goes smoother.
Good thing the end of living with the in laws is near.
