Nuevo, nuevo, nuevo.....

I haven't posted in a long time. I have like 8 unfinished posts that at one point had a point. Anyways. This is a post about a new observation that I have had. As Ro and I have been living peacefully in his parents empty house for the summer, I have been cleaning. EVERYTHING. All of the things that have driven me completely crazy about this house such as, the bottles of random ice cream toppings that have been in the fridge since the first time I came to Chile in 2007 and were at that time expired. They have disappeared. The bathroom is where I am having cleaning problems. There are 49 bottles/tubes/strange bags of soap in the shower. I shit you not. In fact, I was going to put 22 just as a guess, and I went to count them instead. I have a bottle of shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and face wash. One bottle of head and shoulders is Rodrigo's and a bottle of Axe body wash. The rest of it?? Who the hell knows? I can't figure out why there are so many damn bottles. The bottles all have 2 things in common. First, they are all half full. Second, they all have that little corner sticker on them that has NUEVO! on it. All of them, they are all new formula, new scent, new something, even that new look same great product (why?!!!!?? its the same product so why not use the other one before you open a new one??)!! It drives me insane. I can't just throw it away because its not gone, I can't waste it. Throwing the food away in the fridge I have no problem with because its old. Although I was kind of pissed that I had to throw away 4 bags of peach jam, I still can't figure out why MIL doesn't write a shopping list of what she needs instead of just buying everything every time she goes shopping. Anywho back to the 47 bottles of products in the shower, I can't figure out what's so great about NUEVO! I usually get the same old same old whatever and I only buy more when what I have is gone. And I mean gone gone, I even put water into the conditioner bottle and shake it up until I get every last blob of it. I just don't get thrilled by the NUEVO! I am thinking I can just take all of the bottles and put them into Lider bags and shove them somewhere in the cabinets out back. Or I can just leave them because, well, this isn't MY house. Probably a good idea. Next time I buy conditioner I will purposely not buy anything with NUEVO! on it.

You are a funny, observant writer with a keen sense of the absurd. The 'nuevo' concept is the same as everywhere else..put the same crap in a bright, shiny, new bottle, say "23 por ciento mas!" and people cant wait to buy it.

When you figure out why cosmetics in the US always have instructions in French and English, let me know. Where are all the French people?

hahaha chronicles, good point, I really don't know why there are instructions in French on our bottles.... maybe the manufacturers ship the products to Canada too... I can honestly say I have NEVER seen a French person in the US.

I think you're right about Canada and the French thing. I used to think they put French directions on the bottles to look more 'sophisticated.'

Do you miss Minnesota? My husband is from Minnetonka, and I lived near Lake Harriet about 10 years ago.

Good luck with the spring cleaning! I love your posts. They always make me laugh so keep 'em coming...please!

Hey Shannon - here's a recipe that is supposed to be Chilean but includes Wild rice:

I've been meaning to try it but forgot to get wild rice last time I was in MN.

Ha ha! My husband does this and it drives me crazy. He has 3 deodorants in various stages of use and right now 3 bottles of shampoo, two have just a bit left, but he buys a new bottle and starts using that without finishng up the last one.

It used to be worse, but the nana started throwing some of the near-empty bottles away if they hung around a while. She said that way if he asks what happened, I can blame her. So far he hasn't said anything.

Chronicles, I do miss Minnesota, I am from Holdingford....near St Cloud, but I am so happy that I am finally with my husband again and that's all that really matters right now. I am going back to MN in June for 2 weddings and I enjoy MN summer much more than the winter. :D

Noelle, I should just throw them away one at a time, I can probably throw away 10 right now and they wouldn't even notice.

Shannon, you need a little video camera to document some of these (mis)adventures on your blog.

Does your Chilean family recycle? My guess is "not."

Maybe try throwing out 2-3 things and see if there is any reaction?

I just realized there are alos 3 containers of hair gel and 4 razors. Why not use the razor until it no longer works before you take another out of the package?!?!

Chronicles, I actually do have a video camera and I have absolutely NO idea at all how to put the videos from the cam to the computer. And no, sadly my family here does not recycle...I try talking them into it, but apparently it is too much work to hold onto the stuff and then pack it into the car and haul it 6 blocks away to the recycling bins at Lider.
Noelle, I made that impossible for my hubs, I got him a razor that you have to just replace the heads, so he uses it until its dull before I give him a new razor head. they are a little bit more expensive, but he doesn't waste any.
