Its only the second week of May, but I am for sure ready for my vacation already!!
I can't wait to be back in the states!!
Our weekend was very relaxed again, it was very nice. We didn't go out and party at all. Sunday we went to the "feria" and we bought a few dvds and I bought some apples. I made an apple pie which turned out very good!! I have definitly perfected my pie crust!! The recipe called for brown sugar, but apparently it doesn't exist here, that or I am just too stupid to find it! I was going to buy a can of Ready Whip to put on top the pie, but it costs about $5 for a tiny can. Oh well. It tasted good without it!!
Monday was a pretty boring day at work, my first interview didnt show up and the second cancelled so once again I had nothing to do but someone else's work. I ended up getting to leave early. Which worked out perfectly cuz Rodrigo didnt have to go home so he saved the money he would have needed for the "collectivo" * that's a taxi, but you pay a set price and it drives the same route over and over again. *
And now I am at work with no interviews and nothing to do but what I was working on yesterday. And of course surfing the web! Yesterday I was looking at computers, I'm thinking about getting a laptop. A computer of my own would be really nice to have so I can store my pics and videos easier. And it'll be mine so I can get online whenever I want to keep in touch with everyone. Now I just have to come up with the money, maybe I will have enough when I go to the states in July! Well thats my short life update!! lots of love

Hi Shannon, If I remember correctly, brown sugar (or the closest thing to it) is "azúcar rubia" and it's sort of expensive. I've seen it for like 2 luca the medio-kilo in the supermarket. I use azucar dorada, its similar and more widely available and only costs 500 pesos the kilo. I made a sort of apple pie the other day too. Tis the season.
hey shannon, i came across your blog through other gringa friends of mine here (kyle, emily, heather, etc,) and just read this post. Heather's right, its usually azucar rubia, but I have seen it for cheaper. I paid 2 mil for like 2 kilos and it's lasted me a really long time! I've also bought it at smaller stores that specialize in nuts, dried fruits, etc. And you can usually whip up some cream pretty easily. If you want to buy cream that isn't crazy expensive you have to look for it in little boxes (they look like juice boxes) which are not refrigerated, just like the milk. The cream usually says something like, para batir. I want to make an apple pie, too! I made an apple tart for mother's day (I put a picture on my blog) but I'd prefer a pie. If you have any more cooking adventures, definitely take a photo and put in on your blog. I'd love to see them! Oh, and what's your secret for perfect pie crust?
